The government of the United States of America gave key advisories to its citizens in India. It asked its citizens not to visit states like Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, India-Pakistan border areas and the central-east regions where there is Maoism.
The US State Department said that the travel advisory for India has been revised to reflect information on the northeastern states.
It was stated that the advisory has been given keeping in mind the violence, crime and unrest in the above-mentioned areas.
The US citizens were asked to beware of the increasing crime rate and terrorism activities in India. As there are chances of firing between India and Pakistan on the border areas, US Citizens were not asked to go to the Indo-Pak border region.
The citizens were asked not to visit places like Leh, Ladakh, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and other areas of Jammu and Kashmir due to the recent increase in terrorist activities. The US citizens were advised not to tour near the LOC areas as well.
The United States Department of State there has been unrest and violence in Manipur and a few tourist areas in eastern India witnessed rape and sexual harassment cases in the recent past. Thus, US citizens were advised not to visit the northeastern states of India.
The department went on to add that there is Maoist activity in states spanning from West Bengal to North Telangana. It was stated that there were many attacks on government officials in Maoist-affected regions of West Bengal, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telugu states and Maharastra.
The US Department of State asked its officials working in India to take government’s permission before visiting these areas. It was noted that permission is not needed if the officials are visiting metro cities.
