Green Card Interview Chaos: 6-Hour Wait, No Officer?

green card interview delay chaos

A green card applicant has shared a troubling experience involving a six-hour delay at a scheduled interview. The US citizen spouse now fears the case could be stuck indefinitely due to the confusion surrounding the appointment.

The applicant filed forms I-130 and I-485 on October 3 and received an interview date of January 20. The couple arrived at 11:30 am with their lawyer for a 12:10 pm slot.

Despite arriving on time, they were not called in as scheduled. The couple waited until 6 pm before being informed that the originally assigned officer had called in sick that day.

Instead, another officer, believed to be a supervisor, conducted the interview. The applicant said the process felt rushed, with office lights being switched off and doors locked during questioning.

No decision was given at the end of the interview. The officer stated that the file required further review and asked the applicant to upload additional legal documents, which were submitted the following day.

More than 20 days later, the USCIS online portal still shows only one status update stating that the interview was scheduled. While this timeline is not unusual, the silence has increased anxiety.

The concern deepened after learning that another applicant interviewed at the same field office on the same day was approved within a week. This contrast has raised further doubts.

The applicant confirmed there was no overstay on the F-1 visa. One arrest without conviction was disclosed, along with past unauthorized employment, which was admitted during the process.

The prolonged wait, lack of communication, and rushed interview have left the couple frustrated and worried. For now, they have no option but to wait for a decision without any clarity.
