Kabaddi is slowly gaining a reputation as a major international sport. The game of strength and agility is attracting fans from around the world and the Indian community living abroad is a major reason behind it. But what unfolded on Sunday, 20th August in Derbyshire was shocking and unfortunate for both the game and the Indian community. A major clash broke out between two rival gangs during a tournament and three people were injured in the incident.
Players from all around the UK were present in Derby, England, to participate in the England Kabaddi Federation’s Tournament. There was also a huge crowd supporting the players and their teams. But chaos started when gunshots were fired at the scene following some dispute between two gangs. People started panicking and the commotion resulted in three people getting injured, one of them severely.
The visuals of the incident are scary. Huge crowd of men can be seen running and chasing each other around the area. Some of these men were carrying swords and threatened others with them.
Following the disturbance, a large police presence is being maintained by the Derbyshire Police in Elvaston Lane, Alvaston Derby. Police are asking witnesses to come out and share any information they have about the incident.
