We reported earlier about Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi, a student from Hyderabad studying in the US, who was found homeless and mentally unwell on the streets of Chicago.
Her distressing situation came to light through a video shared by a social worker. Zaidi’s family lost contact with her for two months until they learned of her condition. She battled severe depression, faced starvation, and had her belongings stolen.
According to the latest reports, the Indian Consulate in Chicago has offered medical and travel assistance to Zaidi after she registered her grievance on the Madad portal. While Zaidi has spoken to her mother and is in a fit condition, she hasn’t responded to the offer of returning to India yet.
Efforts are underway to send her parents to Chicago, but they currently lack passports. The Majlis Bachao Tehreek is seeking assistance from Telangana IT Minister KTR to obtain passports and visas through the US Consulate in Hyderabad.
