An Indian restaurant owner in the United States has shared a disturbing account highlighting a rise in theft and fraud within the community. The incident has sparked concern among Indian diaspora members and small business owners.

Details Caught on Camera

According to the social media post, the first theft occurred on Friday, January 30. Two individuals arrived in a grey Tesla Model Y at 6:09 PM. Another regular customer in a red sedan was seen later at 8:31 PM.

Value of Items Stolen

The restaurant stated that the stolen pickles were worth approximately $25. The owner added that license plate numbers and card details were captured through the camera footage.

Rising Fraud Complaints

Taste of India claimed it has been witnessing an increase in “order not received” fraud cases. The owner also pointed out that such direct theft attempts were allegedly coming from Indian customers, which added to the disappointment.

Police Assistance but No Legal Push

While local police are assisting in identifying the individuals involved, the owner said they prefer not to escalate the issue legally. They believe the matter can be resolved quietly without further action.

Demand for Apology and Payment

The food truck owner has demanded an apology along with payment by the weekend. This, they said, would help protect the shop and the community’s reputation.

Concern for Community Image

The incident was described as disheartening for both the owner and the Indian diaspora. Taste of India appealed to the community to avoid petty theft. Such actions, the owner warned, further harm the image of Indians amid rising anti-immigrant sentiment in the US.
