There seems to be no relief for the Indian students studying in Canada. The Canadian government is making a few changes in its policies which are going to impact the foreign students studying there. Earlier the minimum cost of living financial requirements was doubled for every foreign student and now the government is making a change that can potentially send back many students from there.
The Canadian government had a policy in effect which allowed post graduates for an additional 18 months work permit to stay in the country. This policy is not going to be extended any further and will come into effect from December 31.
Those whose Post Graduation Work Permit expires after 1st January, 2024 can no longer avail the extension offered. It is going to affect a large number of students from India as Canada is one of the top destinations for a higher degree.
The options left for the students are either to get married to a Canadian, seek asylum or seek a labour market impact assessment document (LMIA). Getting an LMIA is not easy and businesses charge exorbitant amount from the students for it.
