Indian Students

Getting into a foreign University is the first step for many Indians to live their NRI dream. Hundreds of thousands of students apply for a degree outside India looking for better opportunities. But what if getting scammed becomes an integral part of this journey? The UK is one of the top destinations for Indian students to pursue higher education. However, a new report suggests that your chances of getting scammed there is more than the acceptance percentage at the university you applied to.

According to the report, one third of the students are being targeted by scammers and criminals. This number is upto 44 percent in Bournemouth. Some of the prestigious places like Oxford and Edinburgh come shortly after that.

One of the victims of these scams had to change his travel plans at the last moment because he was duped by visa scammers. Upon reaching the airport, the person was informed he didn’t have the transit visa of France and would not be allowed to board. He called some visa office in India which promised the visa in 10 minutes for a fee of ₹25,000.

As soon as he sent the account details and downloaded an app for payment, money started getting debited from the account in installments. By the time he could disconnect he had already lost ₹90,000. The change in regulations in the UK have made students more afraid which the scammers are taking advantage of.
