Indian Youth Unemployed? Government Disagrees

Indian Youth Unemployed

The International Labour Organisation(ILO) has released a report on the situation of unemployment in India and the Indian government is not in agreement with it. The report by ILO suggests a large number of unemployed youth in India comprising the majority of the unemployed people in the country.

The International Labour Organisation said that the youth of the country constitutes 83 percent of the total unemployed population. The government has lodged a formal objection with the report and believes there are inconsistencies in the data sets.

The government has also alleged misinterpretation of data relating to youth unemployment, international mobility and gig economy workers. The sampling method used in 2011-12 was different from the one used in 2017-18 and hence the government believes it can’t be compared.

The government has rejected the claims made by ILO and wants the organization to address the inconsistencies in it. The data also ignores the large number of youth engaged in educational as well as domestic activities.
