The ancient past of India has many great things to offer that the West is still gets fascinated with. Languages and linguistics are no exception to the same. The University of Houston and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations have decided to continue working together to teach and research Tamil language, literature, and culture. This means they’ll keep helping students learn about Tamil things at UH.

At a special event, the leaders of UH and the Consul General of India in Houston celebrated this decision. They think it’s important to share knowledge about Tamil culture between India and the US.

There are a lot of Tamil people in the US, almost 300,000. This shows that there’s a big interest in learning about Tamil culture. It helps the Tamil diaspora in the USA to stay connected to their roots. Beyond that, it gives the local Americans to explore a new culture and profound language.

Teachers say that students, especially American ones, are enjoying learning about Tamil culture. They think this program will help bring India and the US closer together.

As UH keeps working on programs like this, they show that they care about bringing people from different cultures together and making education more inclusive.
