The United States of America has had a huge population of foreign born residents throughout their history. However, this number keeps on increasing every year and Indians are one of the top contributors to it. According to the data released from the US Census bureau, Indians are now the second largest source country for new citizens.
The American dream, which seems to have lost its spark in the global image, still works magic for many Indians. A record breaking 65,960 Indians became new citizens of the USA in the year 2022. This makes the total number of India born US citizens to more than 28 lakhs.
More than 65 million US citizens are foreign born which is 14 percent of the total population. The highest number of naturalized citizens is from Mexico, followed by the Indians.
Although the process of naturalization is facing backlogs and delays, still the increase in the number of Indians getting citizenship is strikingly high. The hope for a better living and the opportunity to live a global life draws thousands of Indians to the US.
