Starbucks is planning to double its presence in India through a phased expansion plan. The company aims at running 1000 stores in India by 2028. Currently Starbucks is operating 390 stores in 54 cities across the country. The expansion will take the company into cities that were previously untouched by the company.

The primary target of Starbucks in India has been the tier 1 cities which usually have a higher cost of living. The company now aims to enter more of the tier-2 and tier-3 cities which have plenty of untapped potential. The process of expansion would also include increasing the workforce.

Starbucks aims at having around 8,600 employees by 2028. New drive-thru and 24 hour shops will be opened. The company is also launching an Indian-Arabica coffee at the Reserve store. It will be available in India and the US as well.

Starbucks entered the Indian market in 2012 with a 50:50 joint venture with Tata Consumer Products Limited. It has recently faced a global boycott because of the ongoing Israel-Palestine war. However, contrary to the global market, its impact was not that evident in India.
