The tiktok ban discussion has sent the American world in a state of absolute haywire with people screaming their lungs out, both in support and against the bill. However, what adds a new twist to the tale is the POTUS, Joe Biden himself has now shared his views on the highly controversial bill.
As covered on our page previously, the US House Panel has unanimously decided to approve a bill which will enforce a ban on the platform from all devices if ByteDance refuses or is unable to sell the social giant. The reason of this is the Chinese origin of the platform which poses a risk to privacy of a huge number of US citizens as the platform is used by over a hundred and seventy million Americans.
The bill which was unanimously passed on Thursday still requires a companion legislation to be passed fully, and is also being opposed by important personalities like ex-presidemt Trump saying that the platform prevents a harmful monopoly of the social giant facebook(meta). Moreover, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had reported earlier this week that the bill still needs some work to get Biden’s endorsement.
However, what has left everyone shocked is that now Biden has come in full support of the bill and had issued an official statement saying that if the bill gets signed, he’ll sign it, bringing the law into force. As for the bill, if passed, it will be giving ByteDance a time of 6 months or more exactly, 165 days to sell the platform to a firm which is preferably not of Chinese origin or else, leave the American market altogether.
