On Friday, 19th April 2024, a man set himself on fire, outside the New York courthouse where Donald Trump’s hush-money trial was going on.
The man doused himself in a liquid before throwing conspiracy-theory pamphlets into the air, police said.
The man was identified as Maxwell Azzarello, a 37 years old man, who flew from Florida to New York City, within weeks.
He has no criminal records in New York. The pamphlets he showed were propaganda based, but the motif behind him setting himself on fire is still unknown.
The police said, before setting himself on fire, the man was seen roaming in the park area, then He used his flammable liquid to drench himself in it.
There was a hefty amount of police present there because of the trail, when they saw the fire they immediately called for a fire extinguisher.
The man is taken to the hospital in a very critical state as he was badly burned.
Laura Kavanagh, the city fire commissioner, said, Three NYPD officers and one court officer had been treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries.
This Incident occurred just when the judge was leaving for lunch on the third day of the hearing.
Tarik Sheppard, the deputy commissioner of the NYPD said, “We do not believe this was targeting any particular person or a particular group. We just right now labelled him as a sort of conspiracy theorist and we’ll go from there, but the investigation will continue”.
