Mayor Demands More Indian Consulates In USAAs the population of Indian-Americans grows in the USA, there has been an increasing demand for more Indian consulates in the states. Currently there are five Indian consulates in the United States. It was promised during Prime Minister Modi’s last visit to America that two more consulates will be opening soon in the US. The Mayor of Los Angeles and the Indian community has urged the government of India to open a new consulate in Los Angeles.

The Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass has pointed out that even though Los Angeles is the second biggest city of the USA, India doesn’t have a consulate there. Therefore it is in the best interest of the Indian community if the government of India decides to open a consulate there. Los Angeles is one of the biggest tourist destinations for Indians. More than 100,000 Indians visit the city every year.

The entertainment capital of the world is also the gateway to global trade for the USA. With one of the biggest ports in the region, Los Angeles is a highly important city in terms of economy as well. As the trade relationship between India and the USA develops, setting a consulate would prove beneficial for India. India is already setting up a new consulate in Seattle. A new consulate in Los Angeles would be great news for the Indian community.
