Techie Clears Meta Interview, Gets Rejected Over F1 OPT

Meta job rejection visa issue candidate

A techie on an F 1 visa has shared his experience of clearing four interview rounds at Meta but still failing to secure the job. The rejection was not due to skills or performance, but because of work authorisation concerns.

The candidate said he is currently working on an OPT permit and had received a strong positive response from the recruiter. Despite this, the company later withdrew the offer citing work authorisation limitations under its hiring policies.

OPT allows international students to work legally in the US for a limited period. However, many companies remain cautious due to the current immigration climate and evolving visa rules that affect hiring decisions.

Recent changes to the H 1B system have made the process more complex and costly. A weighted lottery system now favours higher salary brackets, which reduces chances for fresh graduates on an F 1 visa seeking entry level roles.

The techie claimed he spent months preparing and solved over 150 coding problems. He cleared multiple interview rounds and received positive feedback. However, the final outcome was decided by policy constraints rather than his ability.

This situation highlights a larger concern for international students in the US. If opportunities remain uncertain, many may choose to return home or explore other countries to build stable and long term careers.
