A British citizen has been awarded the death penalty in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India for murdering her husband. The Sikh woman is believed to have killed her husband with the assistance of a friend seven years ago. A court in Shahjahanpur has declared verdict in the case, giving capital punishment to the woman and life sentence for her friend who assisted her.
The deceased man was also an NRI. The incident took place in 2016 when the family visited their native place Shahjahanpur. The man was found dead on the 2nd September, 2016 in his home. The woman said that she will appeal against the verdict and claims that she is being ‘framed’ in the case.
According to the woman, her husband wanted to sell all the property and move to England permanently. When his family members found out about it, they killed him and later framed her for the murder.
On the other hand, the mother of the deceased man said that she feels relieved. The man’s son gave a statement in the court that convicted her mother. According to it, she smothered her husband with a pillow while her friend hit him with a hammer.
