US College Punishes F-1 Student for Falling Sick

US College Punishes F-1 Student

A 19-year-old international student at Temple University found herself without housing, without support, and dangerously close to losing her F-1 visa, all because she got sick.

Taking to social media, an international student in the US shared that her GPA dropped after a medical emergency that required surgery. As a result, Temple University, PA yanked her from her campus job, which also meant losing her housing.

However, it gets even worse as the university only informed her in late July, too late to apply for a proper medical withdrawal or to protect her immigration status.

While still recovering, she spent weeks translating medical records, chasing replies from five departments, and even meeting the dean. However, Temple offered no real solution and only gave a vague promise that she could reapply for her job the following year.

For someone who’d just gone through surgery, that felt less like help and more like humiliation.

Moreover, she also pointed out bigger issues: Temple’s unsafe neighborhood and weak chemistry research opportunities which just piled up more frustration for her. This ordeal has led her to consider transferring to a different college because she has lost trust in the system.
