Visa Approved, Flights Booked, Then a Shocker!

500 Indian students500 Indian students have been left perplexed after Northern College, Ontario cancelled their admission visas for the new academic year. The school said that the over-issuing of visas by the Canadian authorities to international students led to this situation.

There have been several reports of students who have already left for the foreign land while others like Ashley, who paid her registration fees and booked her flight to Toronto, costing over $2,200 are not sure what to do next. Ashley further told that she had quit her job in healthcare and used up all her savings to study healthcare administration at Scarborough’s Pures College of Technology, an affiliate of Northern College.

Pures College, in a statement via email to media houses, said it was “ready, willing and able to accept all international students who received letters of admission”, but its affiliate, Northern College, decided against it. Northern College, a public institute, is the partner of Pures College, a private entity, so the former has the final say on the admission process.

The issue arose because colleges give out more letters of acceptance than the number of visas issued citing that not everyone who gets an acceptance join the institute, as many students apply for several colleges, said David Francis, director of strategic initiatives for Northern College.

This is not the first time it has happened to Indian students. Last year, Alpha College Of Business and Technology suspended students’ enrolment.
