With a decision shaping the landscape of the upcoming U.S. presidential election, Nikki Haley has officially suspended her presidential campaign on Wednesday. Haley, who is an Indian-American candidate, conveyed her decision, stating, “The time has now come to suspend my campaign. I said I wanted Americans to have their voices heard. I have done that. I have no regrets.” Even though she did not explicitly support Trump, Haley urged the former president to seek support from both Republican and independent voters who had previously backed her candidacy. “It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it,” she emphasized. “And I hope he does that.”

This development has followed the Super Tuesday’s election results, where Trump has secured a commanding lead in the delegate count over Nikki Haley. Trump was the winner in 13 states, including states like Texas and California. But Haley, denying Trump a cleaan sweep, did manage to secure a victory in Vermont.

To settle the Republican presidential nomination, a candidate needs 1,215 delegates elected during the primaries. After Super Tuesday, Trump had accumulated 244 delegates, while Haley trailed behind with 86. This disparity was the reason due to which Haley suspended her campaign.

Nikki Haley made a history as first prominent Republican to challenge the former president in February 2023. With her departure, the focus now shifts to the presidential confrontation between President Joe Biden, representing the Democratic Party, and the newly confirmed Republican nominee, Donald Trump.
