A large number of Indians leave the country in search of a better career or education. The United States of America is the top destination for a majority of them. The number of Indians who have permanently settled in the US is increasing every year and among the Indians, the Telugu speaking community is growing the fastest.
Latest data suggests that there has been a significant increase in the number of Telugu speakers in the US in a very short span. The population tripled in just 8 years which is very high when compared with other language speakers.
In 2016, there were 3.6 lakh Telugu speakers in the country which rose to 12.3 lakhs in 2024. California has the highest number of Telugu population with 200,000 speakers. This is followed by Texas at 150,000.
Many Indians are seeing this as a concerning sign as well. This proves that those with enough resources are still picking a foreign country over their own. The biggest drain of talent is in the education system as lakhs of students leave for America every year. Most of them permanently settle in the US itself after attaining employment.
