Netflix in Instagram & TikTok Style: Better or Worse?

Netflix vertical clip preview

Netflix has delivered strong content throughout the year and continues to explore new ways to enhance user experience. The platform is now testing a vertical video feed on smartphones that lets users scroll through short clips from shows and films.

This new feature presents quick samples and popular scenes, similar to Instagram Reels. However, Netflix aims to introduce it as an independent feature rather than a copied version. Users can scroll through these bite sized moments until they decide whether to watch the full title.

The idea is to help viewers choose what to watch without leaving the app in search of recommendations. It may reduce decision fatigue by offering instant previews from Netflix’s own content library.

The mobile feature was tested in May 2025 and has seen further expansion in new updates. It may soon roll out to all users on the official app. Netflix has denied claims that it is copying Instagram or TikTok, stating that its goal is simply to improve viewer experience.

Whether fans embrace this vertical scrolling feature or reject it as unnecessary remains to be seen. Only time will tell if this experiment becomes a useful addition to the platform.
