OTT Film Review: Jyothika Alone Can’t Save System?

System movie courtroom drama

System directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwary has opened to mixed reactions across social media platforms. While several viewers praised the performances, many felt the courtroom drama struggled to maintain momentum because of its slow storytelling approach.

The film stars Sonakshi Sinha, Jyotika, and Ashutosh Gowariker in important roles. Among them, Jyotika’s performance as courtroom stenographer Sarika Rawat has received particularly strong appreciation from audiences and critics.

System revolves around themes such as corruption, patriarchy, revenge, and delayed justice. The film attempts to combine emotional storytelling with procedural courtroom thrills while building a layered mystery narrative.

However, several online reactions suggest that the execution did not completely match the film’s ambitious subject matter. One viral social media reaction bluntly stated, “Jyotika is fine, the movie is not,” reflecting the divided audience response.

Another viewer described the film as “Old Monk in a new bottle,” criticising the familiar courtroom drama format despite the movie’s layered themes and female-driven narrative. Many users felt the screenplay lacked freshness in certain portions.

A section of viewers also criticised the pacing of the film. According to several reactions, the story takes too long to reach its central reveal, making the build-up feel stretched and uneven for some audiences.

One review that gained major attention online stated that “excitement delayed is excitement denied.” Many viewers agreed with that opinion and felt the slow narrative reduced the impact of the strong performances delivered by Sonakshi Sinha and Jyotika.

Despite the criticism, many audiences appreciated the final portions of the film. Several viewers felt the last 40 minutes became more engaging as the central mystery involving court cases, murder investigations, and Sarika’s hidden motives finally unfolded.

Even so, viewers remain divided over whether the climax delivers a satisfying payoff. While some praised the emotional depth and layered storytelling, others felt the long build-up weakened the overall impact of System.
