In a first, Netflix has released viewer data on its catalogue of shows and movies. The data revealed the watch hours for 18,000 titles on the streaming giant in descending order.
Netflix’s original series ‘The Night Agent’ has topped the list with 812 million watch hours! The second on the list is ‘Ginny & Georgia S2’ with 665 million watch hours.
The Night Agent follows Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent, who answers a call that leads him to an espionage/investigation around the globe. The show was an instant hit, receiving fairly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. The show is based on the book of the same name by Matthew Quirk. In March, Netflix renewed The Night Manager for a second season.
Netflix has received its share of criticism for hiding viewership data. Until now, It would reveal data of the top 10 most watched shows/movies in a few categories and that would be it. There was no transparency for shows that didn’t make these lists. It was one of the reasons for the writer’s strike as they demanded higher royalties for shows that performed well.
This new move will let everyone know the actual numbers so that they can demand their pay accordingly. Netflix will publish the list every six months.
