There was nobody available to provide support; people were left to die. Those who knew what had actually happened remained silent. Poisonous air had engulfed the city of Bhopal.
The highly anticipated collaboration between Netflix and YRF appears to have a promising start with “The Railway Men.” Its trailer was released today, managing to offer a glimpse of the tragedy that occurred. In the Union Carbide factory, methyl isocyanate leaked, resulting in the loss of more than 3,000 lives. “The Railway Men” tells the story of the unfortunate night of December 2nd, 1984, when this occurred and how people from different backgrounds came together to take on the responsibility of saving lives.
The story draws inspiration from the actions of people like Ghulam Dastagir, who saved many lives during the incident. One of the most beautiful aspects of this show is its ensemble cast, which includes accomplished actors such as R. Madhvan and Kay Kay Menon, as well as emerging talents like Babil Khan and Divyenndu Sharma. We also caught a glimpse of Sunny Hinduja in a brief appearance in the trailer.
Before this, nobody dared to depict this disaster on screen. The story remained confined to books and journals but was never portrayed in any movie or series. “The Railway Men” appears to have been created with great ambition, and we hope it delivers a compelling storyline and does justice to its significant responsibility of portraying such a sensitive story in a meaningful way. “The Railway Men” will premiere on November 18th on Netflix.
