A recently premiered neo-noir web series on Prime Video that had an interesting trailer, sparking curiosity among audiences, has finally been released to the public.
“Shehar Lakhot” tells the story of a guy named Dev Tomar, who, despite not wanting to revisit his hometown Lakhot after 10 long years, does so for some work. He has his own reasons for avoiding the town, but unexpected events unfold as he returns to Lakhot. Dev gets kidnapped, beaten, and experiences various challenges.
Although the story involves crime and guns, director Navdeep Singh, who also directed “NH10,” chooses a cheesy and light tone, with Haryanvi background music keeping the environment lively. Unfortunately, he fails to uplift the storytelling, and the series is filled with too many filler scenes. Lazy writing detracts from the audience’s engagement with the show.
One aspect expressed well in the series is the charm of Lakhot. Despite promising performances, the show lacks in most departments. The excessively long narrative spans eight episodes, each with a runtime of approximately 1 hour, making it a tedious watch. Shehar Lakhot stars Priyanshu Painyuli, Kubbra Sait, and Chandan Roy Sanyal and is available on Prime Video.
