The first half of 2026 delivered a mixed report card for the Bollywood box office. Only a few films emerged as clear winners, while several releases struggled to attract audiences to theatres despite high expectations.
Border2 emerged as one of the biggest successes of the year. The patriotic war drama connected strongly with viewers and earned the Super Hit tag. Its performance once again proved that large-scale patriotic films continue to attract audiences when backed by engaging content.
Dhurandhar 2 performed even better and ended its run as an all-time blockbuster. The film set new box office benchmarks and stood out as the biggest success of the first six months of 2026. Bhooth Bangla also performed well with a Hit verdict, while Welcome To The Jungle entered the Hit category, although its final box office numbers are still awaited.
The disappointment list, however, was much longer. Happy Patel, Tu Yaa Main, O Romeo, Ginny Wedss Sunny, Ek Din, Daadi Ki Shaadi, Aakhri Sawal, Bandar, Governor, and Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata all ended their theatrical runs as disasters.
Several other films also failed to recover their investment. Ikkis, Vadh 2, CMD, and HJTIHH were declared flops after weak performances at the box office.
A few releases managed average results without making a major impact. Mardaani 3, The Kerala Story 2, Raja Shivaji, and Cocktail 2 fell into the average category. Meanwhile, Main Vaapas Aaunga and Haunted 3D finished below average after losing momentum following their opening weekends.
Overall, the first half of 2026 belonged to action films and established franchises. Border2 and Dhurandhar 2 dominated the box office, while experimental films and smaller comedies found it difficult to survive in theatres.
