Urfi Javed is mostly known for her bold fashion choices, and she is undoubtedly herself wherever she goes, confidently owning whatever she wears.

In recent news, however, she caught people’s attention not for a fashion statement, but for boldly expressing her views about the Cannes Film Festival.

In her Instagram story, Urfi shared her thoughts on celebrities walking the red carpet.

She wrote, “Going to Cannes is an opportunity that isn’t based on merit. Brands buy tickets to the red carpet and give them to influencers or celebrities to represent the brand. Individuals can also buy tickets. Walking the Cannes red carpet is not an achievement — not even for me. It’s an opportunity to promote yourself. That’s the truth. There, I said it. Unless your film is being premiered at the festival (yeah, then it’s an achievement), otherwise anyone can do it (if you have the money or if brands are willing to sponsor you).”

While many on social media claimed she only said this because she couldn’t attend Cannes 2025 due to visa restrictions, and that her comments were a result of frustration, others saw the truth in her words.

The Cannes Film Festival is more than just a fashion show — it’s a platform to connect with international artists, network, promote yourself, and gain global visibility.

Some may see attending the festival as an achievement, while others view it as a business opportunity.

Many have known this, both people and celebrities, but Urfi remains one of the few public figures bold enough to say it out loud, whether out of frustration or honesty.
