The trailer of Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra was released a few days ago. The thriller and suspense elements received a positive response. It features Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead roles and is releasing on September 18, 2026.
With just three days left until release, trade experts are concerned about its performance at the box office. The majority have pointed out that the film hardly has any buzz, and people are not even aware of the fact that Daayra is arriving in theatres.
Some stated that although the content is targeted at the metro-centric audience, specifically the multiplex-going people, it might struggle to find viewers at such places since there is no hype at all.
Netizens pointed out the wrong marketing strategy, saying that it started only a few days before the release of the trailer. As of now, trade experts have predicted that it might start at Rs. 4-5 crores. Some others predicted even lower, stating that the first-day figure could be around Rs. 2 crores.
Social media users said that the trailer should have been a little better since it creates confusion about whether one case is the main focus or multiple cases are being investigated. Although the film has received an Adults Only certificate from the CBFC, netizens wrote that it is not sufficient to pull audiences.
Critics stated that when Haiwaan could not survive properly at a time when Hanuman Ansh and Mirzapur: The Movie are attracting the public, Daayra might have to face a tougher phase than anyone has ever imagined.
However, trade experts are still keeping their fingers crossed, saying that if the word-of-mouth is good, the movie might pick up slowly, like how Hanuman Ansh did. Let’s wait and see if the predictions turn out to be true or the situation will turn out to be something else.
