Farhan Akhtar in Risk? No Title Change, No Release

Farhan Akhtar 120 Bahadur protest news

Farhan Akhtar’s film 120 Bahadur is under fire after protests over its title. Directed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai, the war drama features Farhan Akhtar as Major Shaitan Singh. It is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and Amit Chandra.

The film was announced in September 2024 as a tribute to the Indian armed forces. It highlights the courage of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment, who fought at the Battle of Rezang La against nearly 3,000 Chinese soldiers.

The story honours 120 soldiers who stood their ground despite overwhelming odds. The makers describe it as a salute to the spirit of the Indian Army. However, the title has sparked strong opposition from the Yadav community.

Protesters in Gurgaon blocked roads, demanding the film be renamed 120 Veer Ahir. They argue the title should directly reflect the Yadavs’ role in the 1962 India-China war and insist on naming martyrs in the film.

Members of the Ahir Regiment say the film should close with a tribute to the community. They warned that if their demand is ignored, protests will escalate on 26 October. They also threatened to boycott the release if changes are not made.

Protesters claim that keeping the current title will prevent audiences in the South belt from knowing the Yadavs’ history. They allege the makers are downplaying their contribution and insist on renaming the film 120 Bahadur Ahir.

It is unclear whether Farhan Akhtar and the team will agree to the demands. For now, the controversy around the title of 120 Bahadur continues to grow.
