Zoya Akhtar is reportedly planning a sequel to Gully Boy, which was one of the biggest hits of 2019. However, there might be some changes this time, as Zoya won’t return to direct it and instead serve as a producer for Gully Boy 2.
The sequel is supposed to be directed by Arjun Varain Singh, and it is reported to go on floors by the end of 2025. Apart from this, the sequel will feature new faces and further updates are awaited on whether the original cast members, including Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, would return.

Furthermore, the sequel will be focusing on the story of another rapper. A source said that the film is being prepared and it will go on floors by the end of the year if there are no issues in the making. The insider added that Zoya chose Arjun since she was impressed with his work in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan.
Gully Boy was undoubtedly a big hit at the time of release. But the biggest question is that whether it is necessary to make a sequel to the film. People were well aware of the rapping culture before Gully Boy was released and the only difference was that Gully Boy addressed the struggles of such artists.

It seems like Bollywood is falling short of innovative ideas now. Every hit film is now getting a sequel, and no one can deny that we will get to see many sequels in the upcoming 3-4 years.
Even if Gully Boy 2 is made, the makers have to cast someone who looks like a rapper and fits into the personality of a rapper, which seems a little bit impossible for now. Moreover, the sequel news is still a rumor, and the producers have yet to confirm it.

Sequels and remakes are something that are not being accepted by the audiences of Hindi films nowadays. Moreover, Gully Boy 2 might not be accepted without the involvement of Zoya Akhtar and Ranveer Singh.
Any big production company should now maintain a distance from such films and opt to make content-driven films with an adjusted budget. Let’s wait and see if this will happen.
