As Maharashtra voted in the Civic Body Elections 2026, a video featuring actor and BJP MLA Hema Malini began circulating widely online. The clip shows a senior citizen questioning the VIP treatment given to her while ordinary voters waited for hours at polling booths.
The incident occurred on 15 January 2026 at a voting booth in Juhu, Mumbai, during the BMC elections. The video captures the senior citizen confronting Hema Malini over what he described as unfair access to the booth.
According to the man in the video, he reached the polling station at 7:30 am but was allowed to vote only around 9 am. He questioned why he had to wait while the actress was permitted to enter immediately upon arrival.
In contrast, Hema Malini was seen entering the booth without delay and casting her vote. The difference in treatment triggered anger among those present, especially as cameras and media were already recording the interaction.
When confronted publicly, Hema Malini did not respond verbally. She remained silent and gestured to a follower to apologise on her behalf. The moment added fuel to the growing backlash online.
The video spread rapidly across social media platforms, where citizens expressed frustration over celebrity privilege during voting. Many users supported the senior citizen for speaking up and highlighted the importance of equal treatment in elections.
Several posts stressed that voting is one democratic process where every citizen holds the same status. Social media users pointed out that caste, age, religion, or fame should not affect access to voting rights.
Hema Malini’s behaviour was labelled “arrogant” by many online. For several viewers, the incident symbolised everyday discrimination at polling booths, where ordinary voters wait while influential figures receive instant access.
