A disturbing video from Gonda Medical College in Uttar Pradesh has gone viral on X, triggering widespread outrage among users.
The video shows rats climbing a rod next to a hospital bed where a patient is sleeping. The visuals have raised serious concerns about hygiene and safety inside a government hospital ward.
The footage was shared by the official social media handle of the Congress party. It shows a patient resting in a ward with medicines kept on a steel rack beside the bed.
Several rats can be seen moving around freely near the patient. Some are even attempting to tear open a packet placed close to the bed, believed to contain food.
The caption highlighted the poor condition of the ward. It stated that rats of all sizes were roaming freely, giving the impression that the ward was meant for rodents rather than patients.
More than half a dozen rats are visible moving from one side of the bed to the other. The video is reportedly from the orthopaedic ward of the hospital.
While the incident has triggered political blame games, it has also renewed discussions on the poor state of public healthcare in the country.
Many users pointed out that despite heavy spending of taxpayers’ money on healthcare, such conditions continue to exist. This raises serious questions about accountability in government hospitals.
The situation is especially worrying as many patients depend entirely on government hospitals. They cannot afford private healthcare and have no alternative options.
Such negligence not only endangers patients but also increases the risk of infections. It further weakens an already overburdened healthcare system.
People are now hoping that authorities take note of the viral video. There is growing demand for strict action to prevent such incidents in Uttar Pradesh and other states.
