Neera Arya was born on March 5, 1902, in Khekra Nagar, Bhagpat, into a prominent family. She later completed her education in Kolkata. During this period, she developed a strong interest in India’s freedom struggle.

She eventually joined the Rani of Jhansi Regiment under Netaji Shubhas Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Fauj. Her life took a complex turn after she married British CID officer Srikant Jai Ranjan Das. Their relationship was shaped by opposing political loyalties.

The situation escalated when Srikant reportedly discovered her connection with the Indian National Army. According to historical accounts, he later attempted to assassinate Netaji Bose. In response, Neera Arya allegedly killed her husband to protect the leader.

Following the incident, Neera Arya was arrested by the British authorities. She was sent to the Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Reports claim she endured severe torture during her imprisonment.

Historical records describe the extreme brutality she faced for refusing to reveal information about Netaji Bose and other leaders. Her courage later earned her recognition as the first woman spy of the Indian National Army.

Some accounts also suggest that Neera Arya helped save Netaji’s life during operations in Burma. Her role in the freedom struggle remains an important part of history. The planned biopic aims to highlight these events.

Kangana Ranaut has previously appeared in biographical films such as Manikarnika and Emergency. Despite strong subjects, both films struggled to make a major impact at the box office.

With another biopic reportedly in development, industry observers are watching closely. Analysts are curious whether Kangana Ranaut can successfully bring Neera Arya’s story to the big screen.

Apart from this project, the actress has several other films in development. These reportedly include Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata, an untitled spy thriller with R. Madhavan, Atank, and the Neera Arya biopic.
