Recent reports suggested that Love & War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, had escalated to a staggering Rs 425 crore budget. The claims triggered speculation about possible production troubles. However, sources close to the project have dismissed these figures as exaggerated.
The film features Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in leading roles. It was originally planned on a budget of nearly Rs 250 crore. As production progressed, costs reportedly increased to around Rs 350 crore.
While the rise is substantial, insiders say it is not unusual for a Bhansali production. The filmmaker is known for elaborate sets and detailed period recreations. He is said to be prioritising visual richness over cost cutting measures.
Contrary to social media assumptions, the film does not heavily rely on VFX. Instead, it depends largely on massive constructed sets to recreate its historical setting. Sources argue that this does not justify the Rs 425 crore figure being discussed online.
An estimated Rs 30 crore is expected to be spent on marketing and promotions. This would take the overall landing cost to roughly Rs 380 crore. Even with the increase, there are no confirmed reports of turmoil during production.
The film is said to be progressing on schedule. Shooting is expected to wrap by June, with a theatrical release planned for 2027. For a director known for grand storytelling, Love & War appears ambitious but not unprecedented.
