Rajkumar Hirani has revealed that he once explored the idea of creating a shared cinematic universe featuring characters from some of his most popular films. The filmmaker shared that he had considered bringing together Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, and PK in a single franchise.
Speaking in an interview, Rajkumar Hirani said the idea was eventually dropped because combining the stories would have created several complications. During the same conversation, Arshad Warsi compared the concept to The Avengers, suggesting it could have been a large crossover featuring popular characters.
Rajkumar Hirani also imagined a scenario where Aamir Khan‘s PK meets Ranchoddas Chanchad and Munna Bhai. Fan-favourite characters such as Circuit, Farhan, and Raju were also part of the initial concept. However, he clarified that it was only an idea and had never moved beyond the discussion stage.
The interview quickly sparked reactions on social media. Many users felt that a shared franchise would not suit Rajkumar Hirani’s filmmaking style. They argued that his films have become cult classics because of their individual stories and memorable characters rather than being part of a larger universe.
Some fans suggested that Rajkumar Hirani should continue making sequels instead of building a franchise. Others believed audience preferences have changed, especially after Dhurandhar, making large crossover universes more difficult to execute successfully.
A section of viewers still supported the idea and felt the director should experiment if he finds the right story. At the same time, many urged him to focus on delivering fresh and original content after Dunki received an average response at the box office.
For now, Rajkumar Hirani has only shared the concept behind the proposed crossover. Whether he revisits the idea in the future or chooses a completely different direction remains to be seen.
