The Bollywood calendar is shaping up to be highly competitive at the end of 2025, with multiple big films eyeing the coveted first Friday of December for release.
This trend is understandable, given how the early December slot has proved lucrative with recent blockbusters like “Animal,” “Sam Bahadur,” and the monumental “Pushpa 2” previous December releases.
However, when three major films—Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, Prabhas’ The Raja Saab, and Shahid Kapoor’s Vishal Bhardwaj directorial—all lock their release on December 5, a clash is inevitable.
Sajid Nadiadwala, the producer of Shahid Kapoor’s untitled action thriller, has shown staunch confidence in sticking with December 5, despite the looming competition.
The film, featuring a talented cast including Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, and Randeep Hooda, promises an intriguing blend of Vishal Bhardwaj’s signature style and commercial appeal, supported by the producer’s faith in the project.
Yet, from a market perspective, this decision may appear risky.
Shahid Kapoor’s recent films, Deva and Jersey, have underperformed, and unlike Dhurandhar and The Raja Saab, which carry substantial hype, Shahid’s film seems less anticipated in public discourse.
In a market where star power and buzz significantly influence box office returns, releasing alongside two heavily promoted projects might dilute Shahid’s film’s visibility and audiences.
While artistic vision and confidence are commendable, a strategic reconsideration of the release date could benefit Shahid’s career trajectory and the film’s commercial potential.
December 5 is a prestigious but fiercely contested date, and for a film looking to make a strong comeback, avoiding a three-way clash might be the wiser choice.
