Mirzapur: The Film was released recently and had a huge box office opening. It received the same love on the big screen that it had received earlier on OTT. Famous characters like Munna Bhaiyaa, Kaleen Bhaiyaa, and Guddu Pandit left the audience impressed once again.
With Mirzapur proving that a popular OTT franchise can create massive excitement on the big screen, the success could open the doors for more streaming favourites to explore theatrical films. And honestly, one franchise that would be incredibly exciting to watch in cinemas is The Family Man.
The series already has tremendous repeat value, a loyal fanbase and characters that audiences genuinely love. Manoj Bajpayee’s Srikant Tiwari, with his chaotic double life as a middle-class family man and intelligence officer, has become one of the most iconic characters to emerge from Indian OTT.
Now just imagine watching Manoj deliver one of Srikant’s signature lines on a giant cinema screen, with a packed theatre erupting around you. Kasam se, mazaa hi aa jayega!
Of course, not every successful web series needs a theatrical version. But if Indian OTT franchises are now seriously looking at the big screen after Mirzapur’s blockbuster success, The Family Man has to be right at the top of the list. The scale, the action, the humour and, most importantly, the characters are already there.
The only question is: when do we get Srikant Tiwari on the 70mm screen?
