Mirzapur: The Movie has hit the big screens on September 4, 2026. While expectations were very low, the movie has unexpectedly started well at the box office. The opening day collections are expected to be between Rs. 20-22 crores.
Apart from all this, the action crime drama has received good reviews and even better compared to Awarapan 2, which was also successful. Trade experts believe that the film will survive for a week or two. But in the meantime, it has also set an expectation for other OTT franchises to be expanded into films for the big screen.
While the makers have not announced anything yet, social media users have started discussing the iconic web shows that built a fan base among the audience. Most of them believe that they have the potential to be turned into big-screen entertainers.
The first is Sacred Games. Although the show ended on a cliffhanger in Season 2, reliable sources, including Nawazuddin Siddiqui, confirmed that Season 3 won’t happen; netizens believe that the unresolved plot points can be explored in a film. However, it misses the mass elements compared to Mirzapur, which can easily pull the audience.
A majority believes that The Family Man’s movie adaptation is possible. The show just needs a new place where an unexpected attack might happen, followed by the casting of someone who appears intimidating on screen.
But the story of The Family Man is perfect only for the small screen. Many people believe that the same story will look outdated since they have already witnessed similar topics being explored in the YRF Spy Universe and Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar.
A few others said that the Scam franchise can be explored with the right filmmaker. People even recalled the success of Lucky Baskhar, saying that the subject will need a treatment similar to Venky Atluri’s film. Some even stated that someone else has to direct this subject instead of Hansal Mehta for the big screen.
Although Panchayat’s name has been suggested, a majority stated that the story cannot be ended in one film and it is better to keep it to the limits of OTT. Furthermore, some said that while the show has built a fan base, the story is not perfect for a big-screen film because those who haven’t watched the show are expected to find it boring.
