Big theatre chains are ready to capitalise on the film re-release trend that has taken over Bollywood at every moment possible. They are also using big events to make them seem symbolic and to attract a certain demographic.

The films at showcase are Vikas Bahl’s Queen, Imtiaz Ali’s Highway and Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion. Arguments have erupted whether it is ethical to make money out of the re-release rather than actually contributing to women’s upliftment.

Many asked why they are not showcasing films by women directors who understand the nuances of women’s struggle better than male directors. While some said that this is only done when Women’s Day is around the corner, what about other days.
