Two Cuts Make Superstar Say No to Release!

Blockbuster hit ‘Dangal’ was in the talks recently for a release in Pakistan. However, the censor board there demanded two cuts which the lead actor of the film, Aamir Khan, could not take. Apparently, the cuts demanded by the censor board in Pakistan involved the scenes with the Indian flag and the National Anthem.

Mobashir Hasan, the head of Pakistan’s Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) said that “the decision [for the cuts] is the collective wisdom of the board” and that it was up to the distributors to screen the film or not.

Aamir, however, was against releasing the film with the two cuts and said that the scenes were integral to the storyline and overall soul of the movie and hence said no. A source close to the actor-turned-producer rhetorically asked that, “The film only highlights India’s nationalistic sentiment, so what is the reason to chop off those scenes?”
