When Kangana made her Bollywood debut in 2006 with Anurag Basu’s Gangster, the audience as well as the industry knew that this talented actress was in the game for a long run. However, today Kangana struggles to bag any meaningful roles or audience attention, for that
matter.
How did a promising outsider become India’s most ignored actress of all time? The answer is Kangana herself.
After her debut, Kangana quickly managed to establish herself as a leading lady. With critically acclaimed performances in films like Gangster and Fashion, Kangana earned a reputation for her bold choices and unmatched acting talent.
Her women-centric roles in blockbusters like Tanu Weds Manu and Queen only solidified her position in the industry as an actress with the versatility and confidence to perform almost anything.
However, things shifted as Kangana’s popularity grew. She left no chance to degrade and shame Bollywood for ruining her innocence and running scandals.
The turning point came with her 2019 film Manikarnika. The production of the film was fraught with constant controversies. Krish Jagarlamudi, the film’s director, at one point accused Kangana of hijacking the film and ruining the filmmaker’s vision.
Krish publicly stated that Kangana took over the project, re-shot portions, and claimed undue credit for the film’s direction, with complete disregard for the film’s writers and director.
Following the feud, it was evident that nobody in the industry wanted to work with Kangana, as she’d pick fights with people in the industry who weren’t even related to her. She even made up figures like the “movie mafia” and blamed them for planning her downfall.
Industry watchers and the audience at large were convinced that while Kangana had an exceptional acting prowess, her real-life persona was getting twisted by the day.
Kangana’s transition to politics only intensified the negativity as she routinely used her platform to spew lies about the industry, often portraying herself as the lone warrior against a corrupt system.
The relentless feuds and divisive language alienated Kangana from both the audiences and the film industry, leaving her in a self-dug hole, with very few in the industry eager to collaborate or support her future in Bollywood.
