Another Nepo Kid, Another Flop: Dull & Predictable

Vikrant Massey's Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan Reviews

Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan has hit the theatres and has already left everyone buzzing with several discussions. The romantic drama features Vikrant Massey and also marks the big-screen debut of Shanaya Kapoor.

After a lot of speculation, the film, directed by Santosh Singh, has finally hit theatres to a wave of mixed reviews.

For the unversed, the plot is based on Ruskin Bond’s short story The Eyes Have It, and tells the emotional love story of a blind musician and a theatre artiste.

The downside? The storyline has already drawn criticism for being predictable and dragging in parts. However, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan is being appreciated for its cinematography and emotional tone.

Many have praised Vikrant Massey’s consistently strong performance. A few of them are also acknowledging Shanaya Kapoor’s potential by calling her debut “promising” and “full of spark.”

Some viewers described the film as “visually beautiful” and “a feel-good love story,” while others felt it lacked depth and emotional weight. One harsh review labeled the film “a misfire,” criticizing it for relying too heavily on charm and not enough on solid writing or direction.

Here’s what one wrote in detail, “The film is a major letdown… what could’ve been a heartfelt love story that ends up feeling like a dull acting training session. #ShanayaKapoor, in her debut, fails to sink into her character.. she looks and acts like herself throughout, while #VikrantMassey tries to bring sincerity as a visually impaired man but is ultimately let down by a weak, outdated script.”

The same user wrote, “The story is PREDICTABLE to the point where you know what’s coming next, yet the film drags endlessly to get there. The direction feels disconnected, the screenplay is PAINFULLY SLOW, and there’s no emotional pull. A small, simple plot is unnecessarily STRETCHED, making it a frustrating and forgettable experience.”

Also featuring Zain Khan Durrani in a supporting role, the film is expected to see a low box office opening and will need strong word-of-mouth to build momentum.

Despite the split opinions, Shanaya Kapoor’s entry into Bollywood is generating curiosity and early support. But a few sections are also saying that the makers could have released it on OTT. Would that be a right option? We leave it for the makers to think!
