YRF Spy Universe’s latest release, Alpha, is currently running in theatres. Although the film has received a mixed response and has not matched pre-release expectations, the franchise has achieved a significant milestone at the Indian box office.
According to online reports, the YRF Spy Universe has overtaken Dhurandhar to become India’s highest-grossing film franchise. The Spy Universe has reportedly collected around Rs. 3,210 crores, while Dhurandhar stands at approximately Rs. 3,203 crores. With Alpha still playing in theatres, the total is expected to increase further.
The franchise’s strong performance has largely been driven by the blockbuster success of Pathaan, which reportedly earned over Rs. 1,050 crores worldwide. Other films contributing to the total include Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Tiger 3, Ek Tha Tiger, War 2, and Alpha.
The latest achievement has surprised many trade analysts. While they welcomed the milestone, some also expressed concern over the recent performances of Alpha and War 2, suggesting that future films may need stronger content to maintain the franchise’s momentum.
Many moviegoers believe the Spy Universe can continue its success if the makers focus on better scripts, stronger storytelling and more realistic action. Several viewers also feel the franchise should move away from repetitive formulas to keep future instalments fresh and engaging.
At the same time, not everyone has accepted the reported box office milestone. Some social media users claimed that Pathaan’s collections were boosted by corporate bookings. However, Shah Rukh Khan’s fans defended the film, arguing that it also enjoyed a strong response from audiences in single-screen theatres.
While this achievement is unlikely to affect Dhurandhar, which is not expected to continue as a franchise, the YRF Spy Universe now faces greater expectations. Future releases will likely be judged on whether they can maintain both critical appreciation and commercial success.
