$900K For AI Manager When Writers Struggle For Money

AI Manager Writers StruggleWhy spend money on real people who can put their heart and soul into the craft of content creation when you can invest it in AI?” The streaming giant Netflix has shown audacity by posting an ad for an AI product manager, raising a multitude of questions.

Some companies try to keep their AI usage low profile, such as platforms like Disney+. Although most companies are embracing artificial intelligence, they refuse to do it publicly. We all remember what Disney+ faced regarding the Secret Invasion intros.

However, Netflix seems to be in a glass bubble of its own. Amidst the writers’ strike, one can only imagine the worst steps they could take. But, unfortunately, there’s no need to imagine as Netflix has gone even further. They posted advertisements regarding AI product managers who will be paid around $900k per year – a staggering amount!

To put this in perspective, 87% of Hollywood actors earn less than $27k. Understandably, many people are fuming at this decision of Netflix.

Hollywood actors and writers are part of the strike, fighting for a better cause and a sustainable wage. The use of AI not only puts people’s jobs at risk but also results in a big paycheck for those overseeing the AI.

Workers are already experiencing uncertainty regarding the stability of their jobs due to the rise of AI-driven technologies like ChatGPT and Deepfake, which have the capability to replace a considerable number of jobs. Writers guild and SAG-AFTRA are already revolting for their rights due to this reason.

Unlike most platforms, Netflix has publically shown immense interest in machine learning technology from the very beginning. They even streamed a show on July 6th called “Deep Fake Love.” The Spanish dating show revolves around Deepfake simulations of the contestants.

How will this end? On paper, any AI may seem more productive than a normal human, and with the right prompts, they can perform well. But when it comes to entertainment, it’s all about human warmth and emotions. An AI can never write an episode like “Felina” or a film like “Taxi Driver.” That’s why human emotions are essential, and if companies start to let AI intervene, it will destroy the essence of entertainment.
