Tuesday saw one of the most shocking decisions being made in modern day Hollywood as Spyglass media fired Melissa Barrera from its upcoming movie ‘Scream VII’. This comes after Mellisa posted a pro-Palestinian post on her Instagram.
The 33-year-old was one of the main stars of the movie series and this decision has left fans in shock. Melissa had been posting stuff related to the widely spoken Israel-Hamas war since last month and had been demanding ceasefire. With casualties in thousands, the war has now certainly caused a deep scar to humanity and hence catalyzed Melissa’s actions.
Melissa had reshared a post which accused Israel of genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza and herself wrote that Gaza is now being treated like a concentration camp.
The post was not taken well by Spyglass, who in their official statement stated them having zero tolerance towards antisemitism or hate speech of any form including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.
While the action has caused controversies and mixed reactions from audiences, the move is a right and just one. In these trying times, we should all be more respectful and lovely towards each other and pray for the atrocities being put on both the nations to come to an end.
Meanwhile, director Christopher Landon, who was leading the upcoming release, had initially released a statement on social media platform ‘X’ which read, “Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.” The statement, however, has now been deleted by him.
