Nayanthara‘s Mookuthi Amman 2 directed by Sundar C was released in theatres on November 6th and has received mixed responses from audiences and critics.
Even though the original Mookuthi Amman was a massive success, its sequel Mookuthi Amman 2, didn’t have good pre-release buzz among audiences, as RJ Balaji was not part of the film and because none of the promotional materials released for the film made the expected impact.
Consequently, Mookuthi Amman 2 has started its theatrical run with an average opening. Many viewers, after watching the film in theatres, have commented that Mookuthi Amman 2 feels more like an outdated Amman film and claim that apart from a few comedy scenes, the film has no positives.
Furthermore, they note that apart from one or two sequences, most of the VFX sequences look bad and feel more like a video game. Overall, they suggest Mookuthi Amman 2 is a below-average film and that the makers made a huge mistake by spending a massive amount on this project.
Because of the underwhelming word of mouth, Mookuthi Amman 2 is now struggling to sustain itself in theatres. According to reports, Mookuthi Amman 2 has collected only around 3.60 crores in Tamil Nadu in the first 2 days of its theatrical run.
Since the film was made on a massive budget of around 90 crores, if this current trend continues, Mookuthi Amman 2 might end up being a huge loss-making venture for its makers.
Therefore, it remains to be seen how Mookuthi Amman 2 will perform at the box office and whether it will at least cross the break-even mark in its final run.
