If you are a fan, this is going to hurt you a lot. DC is already at its worst phase ever. A phase so bad that for once James Cameron Might even think about renaming ‘Titanic’ to ‘DC’ as the last one’s ship had a more nasty sinking incident. The Flash was loved by critics but as soon as it entered the market, it fell flat.
The recent installments of the DC franchise have been synonymous with failure. From Black Adam to Shazam! Fury of the Gods, all have experienced a run of misery. Now, Blue Beetle seems destined to join the league of failures, and things couldn’t get worse for the movie makers.
The film shares a similar budget with Oppenheimer or Barbie but won’t likely have the same fate. Projections for the opening weekend are below average, estimated to be in the range of $12M-$17M.
Despite James Gunn’s efforts to give the character exposure, all attempts seem to be falling short. There is even a possibility that Blue Beetle could become the worst opening ever for any DC movie, with Wonder Woman 1984 currently holding the record at $16.7M.
With a price tag of $120M, the movie is unlikely to recover even half of its cost given the current projections. This situation clearly exposes why any of DC’s projects are heading down the path of failure. Even if the film receives some critical appreciation, the chances of it succeeding are close to zero.
