Parodies are not something new to Hollywood. Lots of successful movies have their parodies, whose sole purpose was to mock the original characters.
A new addition to the long list of parodies is one of the most famous villains from the world of comics, Joker. ‘The People’s Joker’ is based on the characters from the Batman comics and centred around Joker the Harlequin/Vera, a trans woman from Smallville played by Vera Drew, who has written and directed the movie as well.
If there is an epitome of comic book characters, a big percentage would pick Batman and Joker as their choice for favourite superhero and villain.
This movie premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year. But, it was never released in theatres due to rights issues. Now, two years later, it will hit the screens on 5 April 2024.
Whether ‘The People’s Joker’ will be able to pull it off or will it go down as one of the many missed opportunities, we shall have to wait for it.
