It might be a saddening fact but Disney is losing its glory, it is losing its charm. Growing up, Disney films became a part of our childhood. Films like The Lion King to Cinderella, created a dynasty. But later they revamped their strategy and dived into love actions.
Remaking and producing live-action adaptations of their beloved classic is a step that is undoubtedly harming the reputation of Disney. There have been attempts like Beauty And The Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin which had a miserable fall, not only at the box office but played with the emotions.
But now, the field is not just Disney’s, there are some big boy’s in the town and they are fighting for the throne. Lately, Netflix and WB are exploring the grandeur of Disney with their darkish tone and we might have the perfect compositions which might end Disney’s rule.
Netflix produced an adaptation of Pinocchio, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and it was unlike a regular Disney movie. It had Disney’s quality with a mesmerizing ending.
Later, WB is making Disney fight for the spot. Barbie, on paper, looks like a typical Disney movie but has a more dystopian approach. Even the recent Willy Wonka adaptation ‘Wonka’ looks just like a Disney movie with some special promising elements.
Even in 2021, Prime Video’s original ‘Cinderella’ came out. Though it wasn’t one good attempt, it provided fans with a new direction, a more realistic direction, and fans loved that fact.
Now, these are always the USP of Disney and if other creators take these quintessential elements from the studio, they will be left with a bunch of Marvel movies, that’s it. And they are not only taking the Disney factor, but they are also adapting it in a darker tone which is more suitable for contemporary audience.
