Telugu film industry is widely regarded for its commercial appeal at the pan India level as we have seen many historical blockbuster in the recent past. But there is something detrimental with regard to the industry, and this is regarding the production timelines.
Every single superstar oriented film in Telugu cinema is taking in the range of 2 to 3 years to be executed and released.
When compared to Bollywood and Hollywood standards, these are extremely elongated timelines, which do not just delay the product, but also spike up the production costs massively.
If there is one thing that Telugu directors need to learn from Hollywood film makers, it would be the need to stick to strict timelines.
For instance, we have the case of Christopher Nolan, who is regarded as one of the finance director of this generation in the world. He executed his most recent project The Odyssey with some of the biggest stars in the industry within strict budget of $250 million and wrapped up the entire shoot within 92 days.
If we take this in Telugu cinema terms, almost every star hero film is shot for at least 150 if not 200 or more days. This is nearly double the timeline for arguably the greatest director of this generation, Christopher Nolan, who makes big spectacle films himself.
It is a fact that we cannot match the timelines of Hollywood due to the extreme contrast in production styles, but there must be some sort of inspiration to reduce the production time. Perhaps studying the Hollywood model and taking a few pointers can help several Telugu directors.
